How to Find the Perfect Shoe Fit: A Complete Size Guide for Men and Women

One of the biggest challenges of buying shoes online is getting the fit right. Order too small and your feet are cramped. Order too large and your heel slips with every step. Getting the right size is simpler than you might think — if you know what to measure and what to look for.

Step 1: Measure Your Feet at Home

Feet change size throughout the day — they swell slightly by the evening. For the most accurate measurement, measure your feet in the afternoon or evening, and always measure while standing (not sitting), as standing spreads your foot slightly.

What you need:

  • A blank sheet of A4 paper
  • A pen or pencil
  • A ruler or measuring tape

How to measure:

  • Place the paper on a hard floor and stand on it with your heel against a wall
  • Trace the outline of your foot around the widest points
  • Measure the length from your heel to your longest toe (in cm)
  • Measure the width at the widest part of your foot
  • Repeat for the other foot — most people have one slightly larger foot

💡 Always size for your larger foot.

Step 2: Use the Size Chart

Indian shoe sizing varies by brand. At Rydus Performance, our sizes follow the standard Indian sizing system. Here is a general reference:

Foot Length (cm)  | Men’s Size (India)  | Women’s Size (India)

22.5 – 23.0 cm    | 5                   | 3

23.5 – 24.0 cm    | 6                   | 4

24.5 – 25.0 cm    | 7                   | 5

25.5 – 26.0 cm    | 8                   | 6

26.5 – 27.0 cm    | 9                   | 7

27.5 – 28.0 cm    | 10                  | —

Step 3: Know the Fit Rules

  • There should be a thumb’s width (about 1cm) of space between your longest toe and the shoe’s end
  • Your heel should sit firmly in the back of the shoe without slipping
  • The widest part of your foot should not feel squeezed by the shoe’s sides
  • When you walk, your foot should not slide forward

Common Fit Mistakes to Avoid

Buying your exact measured size

Always add at least 0.5 to 1 size when shopping athletic shoes. Feet swell during activity, and a snug fit becomes painful fast. One of our customers mentioned in a review that the Elevate shoe felt slightly tight — she recommended going one size up. This is solid advice for most performance footwear.

Only measuring one foot

Most adults have feet that differ slightly in size. Always measure both feet and order based on the larger one.

Trusting a size across all brands

A size 8 in one brand may be a size 7 or 9 in another. Use centimetre measurements as your primary reference, not size numbers.
